. in less than an hour oakland police and city officials are scheduled to address the recent rash of deadly violence in that city. alex savidge is live right now at city hall with what city leaders are expected to say. alex what are they expected to say? >> reporter: well, they are supposed to come up with some solutions some ways to try to curb the shootings. it was a particularly violent weekend in oakland. this announcement will involve both the mayor and police chief. again it will happen within the hour. the announcement will take place right at the spot where three-year-old carlos nava was killed back in 2001. you may remember this shooting. the young boy hit by a stray bullet and right now there is a mural that has been painted in that area in his honor. no one from oakland police or the mayor's office has culled me back. we do understand the focus will be on the four homicides in oakland this past friday and the 11 people wounded by gunfire over the weekend. just last night five people were shot at a birthday party. the surge in violence has led larry reid to be called as a state of

[ shouting ] >> oakland's public safety committee approved the controversial plan after angry protesters voiced their opinions against police chief howard jordan and other supporters. people are upset about a police tactic called stop and frisk, a method supported by l.a.'s former police chief. chief jordan wants to hire him as a consultant. >> ask yourself why people in this room are so willing to risk going to jail by shouting out and screaming. because they know there's something fundamentally wrong with the oakland police department. >> just remember this, okay. i'm the police chief. i'm the guy that gets to decide what practice we're going to do and how we're going to do it. i'm the person that's going to be held accountable. >> the plan also includes more funding for the police academy to train new officers as well as the hiring of 11 alameda county sheriff's deputies for violent suppression efforts. the city council will vote on the issue next tuesday. >>> more shake-ups in the white house cabinet as president

that the lone female defendant gave people associated with an oakland gang information that ultimately led to this home invasion and murder. 24-year-old raven dixon is behind bars. she also faces a gang enhancement. the chronicle is reports that she worked as a prostitute for kumar and passed along information about the mansion, including the lateout. coincidently, the oakland police chief said that is the same group involved in a gang war. the chronicle sources say shows people hatched a plan to invade the estate. the district attorney's office have charged three others with kumer's murder. his home was broken into last november while he and his wife were home. kumar's body was found inside but the police won't say how he was killed. the court had documents sealed because police requested it saying it would hamper the investigation. law enforcement is discussing when to reveal any more information on the case. word is that may happen soon. i spoke on the phone with dixon's attorney and he says this latest development comes as a surprise. he says his client never revealed that she had any
